To make an appointment at headspace Hawthorn please give us a call during opening hours, or fill out our online form here . If you're not feeling up to contacting us yourself, feel free to ask your family, friend, teacher, doctor or someone close to you to make the call with you.

headspace Hawthorn is operated by Access Health and Community. All headspace services are funded by the Australian Government Department of Health. Administration of funding is carried out by the headspace centre’s local Primary Health Network, in this case, Eastern Melbourne PHN.
Mental Health Services
Mental health workers – which may include psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors and other workers – that can help if you're just not feeling yourself.
Youth Reference Group
A group of young people who help with events and some decision making at a centre. Ask your centre about getting involved.
Alcohol & Drug Services
Workers either on site or linked to the centre who can assist you with any alcohol or other drug issue.
Centres have a range of programs and activities for young people. Just ask your centre what they have on.

Private Practitioner, Part-time/Sessional & Full-time

headspace Hawthorn is delivered by Access Health and Community (Lead Agency). headspace Hawthorn is seeking expressions of interest from Allied Health Practitioners (Clinical Psychologists, Psychologists, Mental Health Social Workers and Occupational Therapists) to provide high quality evidence based interventions to young people aged 12-25 years.
You will be working alongside a multi-disciplinary team, have administrative support, consulting space and desk/phone/computer in with the team. All referrals in are first assessed by our intake team, ready to go with a current Mental Health Treatment Plan. There will be a low management fee payable by you, for each attended client.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in assessment, diagnosis and counselling support within Youth, Community or Mental Health Services
- Tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work, occupational therapy
- Current registration with the appropriate professional body
- Eligibility to provide Medicare Benefits Schedule Services
- Excellent skills in youth engagement working with both young people and their families
- Working with Children’s check

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect at my first appointment?
When you first come to headspace Hawthorn you will be greeted by our friendly staff. If you have a Medicare card or the number, bring it along with you. You will then be asked to use an iPad to give us some details about your wellbeing. After this, you'll sit down with one of our intake workers who will work with you to develop a plan that suits your needs.
How much does it cost?
Headspace Hawthorn is a free service.
Should longer term support be required, fee options can be negotiated. Please advise if you have a concession or Centrelink card. We have EFTPOS facilities.
Some of our programs are covered under Medicare. To apply for a Medicare card, please click on this link
What if I can't get a Medicare card?
headspace Hawthorn offers free counselling that does not require a Medicare card
How do I get to headspace Hawthorn?
We are located above the Hawthorn Arts Centre at Level 1, 360 Burwood Road, Hawthorn just near the corner of Glenferrie and Burwood Roads. Glenferrie train station is 200 meters away on Glenferrie Road. Tram stop 73 for the number 16 tram is only 50 meters away on Burwood Road. There is 2 hour parking available behind headspace on Kent Street.
Is there disability access at headspace Hawthorn?
We have automatic doors and a lift for wheelchair accessibility. If you require any assistance at all, please call us on (03) 9006 6500, a staff member would be happy to come down and greet you.

How can we work together to support the mental health and wellbeing of young people?
We support schools in promoting mental health with young people and their families in a number of ways. Some these are listed below and are featured in the drop down on the request form:
- Service Presentations: we are offering student wellbeing teams a 30 minute service presentation and accompanying resource to enable those supporting young people to make appropriate referrals to our service.
- Youth Presentations: through the delivery of an interactive 30 - 45 minute presentation we aim to promote mental wellness, enhance awareness of mental health problems and build young people's capacity to seek help early.

What is SAFEMinds?
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) has partnered with headspace, the National Youth Mental Health Foundation to develop SAFEMinds: Schools and Families Enhancing Minds, a comprehensive learning and resource package that will enhance the capacity of school communities to effectively identify children and young people with early signs of mental health issues, offer school-based interventions and refer appropriately when needed.

Working in partnership with sports clubs is a priority for us at headspace Hawthorn. We would like to applaud the great work already being achieved in sports clubs and continue to work with you to enable young people to reach their full potential.

We support sports clubs in promoting mental health with young players and their families in a number of ways. Some these are listed below and are featured in the drop down on the request form:
- Club Personnel Presentation: we are offering club personnel a 30 minute presentation and accompanying resource to enable clubs to support young players and make appropriate referrals to our service.
- Player Presentation: we are offering sports clubs a 20 minute presentation that aims to raise awareness about youth mental health and provide information about how to support young players in accessing services.
- Marquee Hire (free) - if you have an event coming up and require a 3m x 3m marquee we can provide you with ours free of charge.

- Service Presentation: we are offering service providers a 30 minute headspace Hawthorn presentation and accompanying resource. It is also an opportunity for our team to find out about your organisation and processes.
- EXPO Stallholder: if your service is planning an EXPO or event which has a youth mental health and wellbeing focus we can attend as a stallholder. Our stall includes resources, merchandise, information and we can run a youth engagement activity if appropriate.

Volunteering and placements
Are there any employment opportunities with headspace Hawthorn?
Can I volunteer with headspace Hawthorn?
headspace Hawthorn provides those aged 16-24 with the opportunity to be heard and to take action to improve the health and wellbeing of young people through our Youth Advisory Group (YAG).
The YAG develops and delivers community events and projects and provides feedback to the centre on how to improve youth mental health services.
YAG members have the opportunity to expand their skills and knowledge in advocacy, public speaking, project management and mental health.
How do I get involved?
Recruitment for the headspace Hawthorn Youth Advisory Group is currently closed for 2019. Keep an eye out on our website and social media for updates.
Can I do a placement with headspace Hawthorn?
We offer a small number of placements that are organised directly with a partner university. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate placement requests from other students.
Can I do work experience or an internship with headspace Hawthorn?
Unfortunately we do not currently offer internships or work experience opportunities at this time.
